Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency nursing care for adult and pediatric patients, prioritizing safety and rapid assessment
- Perform trauma assessments and implement care according to Level I trauma protocols
- Triage patients effectively to ensure timely treatment in a fast-paced ED environment
- Administer medications, IVs, and emergency interventions with precision and confidence
- Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record and participate in shift handoffs
- Participate in required competency testing and skills checklists to maintain clinical excellence
- Support family-centered care and communicate clearly with patients and families during critical moments
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license valid in Connecticut (compact license accepted if applicable)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC required; TNCC required
- Level I trauma experience preferred
- Ability to pass Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
- Required health clearances: fit test, respirator evaluation, Tdap, 2-step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/T-Spot), COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, Varicella, physical/health statement, and Trinity 10-panel drug screen
- Strong critical thinking, triage skills, and ability to perform under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency assessment and rapid decision-making
- Trauma care protocols and stabilization techniques
- Pediatric emergency care and age-appropriate interventions
- IV therapy, medication administration, and advanced life support
- Familiarity with ED workflows and electronic health record documentation
- Ability to prioritize multiple high-acuity patients simultaneously
- Clear, compassionate patient and family communication
