Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care for laboring patients and mothers across the peripartum period
• Perform advanced fetal monitoring and interpretation to support safe labor management
• Assist and circulate for cesarean sections and support postoperative recovery when needed
• Conduct cervical exams and place/monitor IUPC and fetal scalp electrode (FSE) as appropriate
• Initiate IV starts and draw labs accurately and efficiently
• Participate in deliveries — supporting vaginal births and emergent situations with calm competence
• Document thoroughly and promptly in Meditech and Centricity to maintain excellent continuity of care
• Collaborate with laborists, CNMs, anesthesia, OB techs and the wider care team to ensure smooth, 24-hour coverage and great patient outcomes
• Educate families on labor progress, pain management options (including nitrous oxide and epidurals), newborn care and safety

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-specific or compact where applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience (2+ years required)
• AWHONN intermediate fetal heart monitoring certification (required)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (required)
• ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
• Experience with Meditech and Centricity documentation (preferred)
• Travel nursing experience with previous completed contracts is preferred
• Comfort with IUPC/FSE placement, cervical exams, IV starts and circulating for cesarean sections

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong fetal monitoring skills and interpretation (AWHONN intermediate level)
• Proficiency in Meditech and Centricity electronic charting
• Hands-on experience with labor interventions: IUPC, FSE, cervical exams and IV management
• Skilled in supporting vaginal deliveries and assisting in cesarean procedures
• Ability to work 1:1 patient ratios in active labor and adapt to 1:2-3 postpartum or antepartum ratios
• Excellent communication and teamwork to coordinate with laborists, CNMs and anesthesia
• Calm, decisive critical thinking in emergent situations and neonatal resuscitation
