Roles & Responsibilities
- Facilitate safe and effective surgical procedures as a key member of the OR team
- Maintain and vigilantly protect the sterile field throughout operative cases
- Handle and prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment within your specialty
- Serve competently as first scrub, second scrub, or assistant circulator depending on the case
- Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies promptly
- Assist with room turnover and end-of-case cleaning to keep the OR running smoothly
- Participate in pre-procedure reviews (H&P, consents, radiology) to ensure readiness
- Contribute to orientation and clinical instruction of new staff and students
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and graduation from a nationally accredited surgical technology program (required)
- Current certification through a national certifying body and must maintain active certification (required)
- Internal applicants with 3 or more years of recent OR experience who are eligible for certification may be considered in lieu of the program completion
- Associate degree or higher encouraged (preferred)
Education

Knowledge & Skills
- Proven sterile technique and sterile field maintenance
- Instrumentation handling and ensuring proper instrument function
- Comfortable performing first scrub, second scrub, and assistant circulator roles
- Strong infection control knowledge including standard and transmission-based precautions
- Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and support efficient case flow
- Experience with circulating duties, inventory control, and end-of-case cleaning
- Effective patient safety awareness and monitoring during procedures
- Willingness to teach and orient new personnel and clinical students
