Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based critical care to medical ICU patients
• Manage mechanical ventilation and titrate therapies in collaboration with RTs and intensivists
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry/EKG strips to detect patient changes
• Provide 1:1 to 1:2 nursing care based on patient acuity and unit ratios
• Document accurately and efficiently in Cerner to ensure continuity of care
• Float to sister facilities and the MedSurg unit as needed, demonstrating adaptability
• Support team flow by providing break relief as charge nurse when assigned
• Participate in orientation and precept new staff and travelers during floor-specific orientation

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for practice in California (required)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA preferred), NIHSS and PALS required
• Proven competency with telemetry/EKG interpretation and mechanical ventilation
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical record preferred
• Comfort floating to sister facilities and covering MedSurg when needed
• Must provide two supervisory references at submittal (one within 12 months, one within 3 years; charge accepted)
• Completion of required modules and Relias Dys exam prior to acceptance (must be completed within 24-48 hours; prior passing Relias Dys within 12 months is acceptable)

Education

• Active California RN license (required)
• ADN or BSN acceptable; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong telemetry skills and ability to read/interpret EKG strips
• Mechanical ventilation management and familiarity with ventilator support
• Critical care assessment skills for medical ICU populations
• Proficiency with Cerner charting and electronic documentation
• Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams including RTs, pharmacy, hospitalists/intensivists
• Charge nurse experience or ability to provide break relief and support unit flow
• Comfort with float assignments and adapting to different unit layouts and workflows
