Roles & Responsibilities
- Determine specimen acceptability quickly and accurately within established guidelines
- Process and store specimens under appropriate conditions to preserve diagnostic integrity
- Prepare and maintain reagents, ensuring they are dated, in quantity, and within expiration limits
- Perform staining, microscopic evaluation, and detailed documentation of findings
- Operate laboratory information systems for ordering, processing, and reporting tasks
- Coordinate schedules for Cytology Assistant and Preparatory Technician to maintain smooth workflow
- Apply critical thinking to troubleshoot practical and analytical laboratory problems
- Adhere to quality control procedures and help implement constructive improvements
Qualifications
- CT (ASCP) certified or CT (ASCP) eligible — highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field — required
- Completion of one year of formal training in an AMA-approved cytology program followed by ASCP certification — required
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems and computer processing
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work well on a team
- Experience with specimen handling, staining, and microscopic analysis
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required)
- Completion of an AMA-approved cytology training program (required)

- Cytology and microscopic analysis expertise
- Specimen handling, processing, and storage best practices
- Staining techniques and reagent management
- Quality control and documentation/computer processing
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and safety guidelines
- Good communication, scheduling coordination, and conflict resolution skills
- Teamwork mindset and ability to implement constructive change
