Roles & Responsibilities

• Determine specimen acceptability quickly and accurately within established guidelines
• Process and store specimens under appropriate conditions to preserve diagnostic integrity
• Prepare and maintain reagents, ensuring they are dated, in quantity, and within expiration limits
• Perform staining, microscopic evaluation, and detailed documentation of findings
• Operate laboratory information systems for ordering, processing, and reporting tasks
• Coordinate schedules for Cytology Assistant and Preparatory Technician to maintain smooth workflow
• Apply critical thinking to troubleshoot practical and analytical laboratory problems
• Adhere to quality control procedures and help implement constructive improvements

Qualifications

• CT (ASCP) certified or CT (ASCP) eligible — highly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field — required
• Completion of one year of formal training in an AMA-approved cytology program followed by ASCP certification — required
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems and computer processing
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work well on a team
• Experience with specimen handling, staining, and microscopic analysis

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required)
• Completion of an AMA-approved cytology training program (required)

• Cytology and microscopic analysis expertise
• Specimen handling, processing, and storage best practices
• Staining techniques and reagent management
• Quality control and documentation/computer processing
• Familiarity with laboratory procedures and safety guidelines
• Good communication, scheduling coordination, and conflict resolution skills
