Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled nursing care on the medical unit, delivering thoughtful and timely patient assessments
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and document care according to facility protocols
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Monitor patient status and escalate changes promptly to ensure safety and positive outcomes
- Maintain clear, professional charting and handoffs to support continuity of care
- Support infection control and safety procedures in a correctional healthcare environment
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) credential — required
- Comfortable and professional working in a correctional facility setting (Pelican Bay State Prison)
- Ability to pass facility-required onboarding and any background checks/orientation
- Strong communication skills and teamwork mindset
- Prior medical unit or similar clinical experience is preferred
Education
- Completion of an accredited vocational nursing (LVN) program
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of medication administration and basic nursing procedures
- Patient assessment and clinical observation skills
- Basic charting and documentation practices
- Ability to follow protocols and maintain a safe environment
- Competence in working with patients who have complex medical needs
