Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on safety and recovery
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications with careful monitoring
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization when needed
- Collaborate with custody staff and the multidisciplinary mental health team to coordinate care
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation and treatment records
- Participate in orientation and training activities during the initial 2-3 week period
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program
- Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry preferred
- Active California medical license or eligibility to obtain one in a timely manner
- Experience or interest in correctional, forensic, or institutional psychiatry is a plus
- Ability to pass facility-required background checks and meet credentialing requirements
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Education
- MD or DO with completed psychiatry residency
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep knowledge of psychopharmacology and medication management
- Skilled in psychiatric assessment, risk evaluation, and crisis management
- Familiarity with behavioral health care plans and progress note documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively with custody and medical staff in secure settings
- Cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care approach
