Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care for medical-surgical and observation (OBS) patients
• Assess, monitor and document patient status, recognizing changes and escalating as needed
• Administer medications and treatments accurately following hospital protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create and implement effective care plans
• Educate patients and families on discharge instructions, medications and follow-up care
• Maintain safe, clean patient environments and adhere to infection control standards
• Support efficient patient flow in the observation unit to optimize outcomes and throughput

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — travel nurses typically hold compact or state licensure (verify TN requirements)
• Minimum 2 years of recent medical-surgical (Med-Surg) nursing experience
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS and PALS a plus where applicable
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills in a fast-paced observation/Med-Surg setting
• Ability to pass facility onboarding and credentialing within required timeframes

Education

• Nursing diploma/Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of Med-Surg nursing principles and observation care
• Proficiency with medication administration, IV therapy and wound care
• Skilled in patient assessment, documentation and electronic health record systems
• Excellent communication, teamwork and time-management skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple patients safely overnight
