Roles & Responsibilities

• Verify patient identification, confirm informed consent, and screen for allergies or contrast reactions
• Prepare and verify sterile supplies, medications, and equipment for procedures
• Monitor and record vital signs and assess distal pulses before, during, and after procedures
• Set up and operate the automatic contrast injector and select appropriate contrast agents with the physician
• Assist with and administer injectable medications per physician orders, including emergency meds when needed
• Scrub with the physician using strict sterile and aseptic technique to reduce infection risk
• Advocate for radiation safety—wear dosimeter, document fluoroscopy time, and evaluate dose reports
• Position patients and imaging equipment to optimize projections and select imaging protocols that balance quality and dose
• Acquire and process digital images (road mapping, subtraction, annotation, magnification) and perform 3D reconstructions
• Assist with ultrasound-guided vascular or organ access and provide post-procedural care including hemostasis and dressing application
• Provide hands-on instruction and mentorship to students and team members

Qualifications

• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required
• ARRT(R) required; ARRT(VI) or ARRT(CI) required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS required; NIHSS required
• Experience in Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology, Electrophysiology, or related cardiovascular intervention specialties
• Experience at a Level 1 Trauma Center is preferred
• Comfort with on-call rotations (weeknights, weekends, holidays)
• Experience precepting or instructing students and newer staff

Education

• Graduate of an accredited radiology program

Knowledge & Skills

• Fluoroscopy operation and documentation of fluoroscopy time
• Radiation safety and dose reduction techniques
• Sterile technique and vascular access procedures
• Contrast agent selection and automated injector operation
• Patient monitoring and recognition/response to emergencies
• Digital image acquisition, road mapping, subtraction, and annotation
• 3D image reconstruction and image enhancement techniques
• Ultrasound guidance for vascular or organ access
• Calibration and adjustment of pressure transducers and other monitoring equipment
• Familiarity with interventional workflows across cardiology, neurology, radiology, and electrophysiology
