Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal care to patients across the lifespan, from infants to geriatric patients
• Perform oral examinations, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride applications
• Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) and record vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
• Manage patient scheduling and ensure smooth clinic flow
• Coordinate and lead community prevention activities including sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper instrument sterilization and infection control
• Document clinical findings and treatment accurately and collaborate with the care team to support patient outcomes
• Participate in required competency assessments and maintain certification standards

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency Assessment (required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years)
• High Risk Competency (required within 3 months of hire and annually)
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• High school diploma or GED

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical hygiene skills and manual dexterity
• Knowledge of infection control best practices and instrument sterilization
• Principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Ability to perform and interpret dental radiography
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and ability to sit and treat patients for extended periods
• Patient scheduling and clinic workflow management
