Roles & Responsibilities

• Compound and dispense prescribed medications accurately to ensure patient safety
• Review prescriptions for accuracy, interactions, dosing and appropriate therapy
• Direct and supervise pharmacy staff, interns and technicians while maintaining legal ratios
• Provide patient counseling on medication use, side effects and storage when counseling is accepted
• Maintain inventory controls, proper storage and secure handling of controlled substances
• Manage third-party prescription systems and resolve insurance rejections promptly
• Document and report medication incidents and participate in quality assurance activities
• Build strong relationships with local physicians and healthcare teams to support coordinated care
• Ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state and local pharmacy laws and guidelines
• Lead efforts in loss prevention, hazardous drug disposal and pharmacy security practices

Qualifications

• Active license to practice pharmacy in California (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited college (required)
• Current BLS certification (required)
• Demonstrated experience in retail pharmacy operations, compounding and dispensing
• Familiarity with controlled substances security and inventory management
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to supervise staff, train interns, and maintain professional documentation
• Willingness to complete required continuing education annually and follow regulatory requirements
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform duties that involve standing, bending and walking

Education

• BS in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. (ACPE-accredited program required)

• Compounding and sterile/non-sterile preparation knowledge
• Prescription review and medication safety best practices
• Inventory management and controlled substances handling
• Third-party prescription systems and insurance rejection resolution
• Pharmacy supervision, staff training and workflow optimization
• Regulatory compliance and quality assurance processes
• Patient counseling, communication and customer service skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic pharmacy IT systems
