Medical Laboratory Technician - Weekender

Shift Type: Friday-Sunday, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM NOC (12-hour night shifts)
Hours per Week: 32
Candidate Pay Rate: $46 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and timely laboratory testing across Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology, Blood Bank and Blood Gas/Point of Care
- Run and document quality control, calibrations, linearity checks and corrective actions to ensure patient-safe results
- Perform manual differentials, antibody identification, coagulation testing, and morphology reviews with attention to detail
- Maintain and document instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and routine checks
- Assist with analyzer validations, implement new analyzers, and attend vendor training to keep the lab current
- Review data, reconcile out-of-range results, and hold/report critical results per protocol
- Provide in-service training, competency assessments, and mentorship to fellow laboratory staff
- Manage specimen collection and processing as needed, including bone marrow/body fluid prep support for clinicians
- Maintain supply inventory, receive and check supplies, and notify section lead when replenishment is needed
- Document actions, complete investigations for proficiency testing issues, and communicate findings clearly
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) required; Bachelor’s degree for MT or equivalent acceptable
- ASCP certification (or equivalent) required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire
- Medical Technologist (MT) credentials accepted if holding a four-year degree or AAB certification as noted
- 1+ years of related laboratory experience preferred, especially in hospital lab environments
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and strong documentation skills
- Comfortable working night shifts and independently handling critical results and instrument issues
- Ability to perform phlebotomy, manual differentials, antibody identification, and routine maintenance
Education
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) required
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field for MT; MT AAB certification accepted
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on experience with Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology and Blood Bank testing
- Proficiency in quality control, proficiency testing review, and troubleshooting analyzers
- Instrument maintenance, calibrations, validations and data review experience
- Specimen processing and collection skills, including phlebotomy and body fluid preparation
- Familiarity with coagulation testing and antibody identification techniques
- Strong documentation, clerical accuracy, and ability to follow lab policies and safety practices
- Training and mentoring skills for staff competency assessments and in-service education
- Comfort with attending vendor training and implementing new laboratory analyzers
