Roles & Responsibilities

• Compound and dispense medications accurately and safely, ensuring each prescription meets legal and clinical standards
• Review prescriptions for appropriateness, interactions, dosing, and completeness before release
• Provide patient counseling on medication use, side effects, storage, and adherence when counseling is accepted
• Supervise and mentor pharmacy technicians and interns while maintaining correct pharmacist-to-staff ratios
• Manage inventory, procurement, and secure handling of controlled substances with robust loss-prevention practices
• Resolve third-party prescription rejections and maintain awareness of payer systems to ensure smooth patient access
• Maintain accurate pharmacy records, enter patient and prescription data, and support pharmacy quality assurance processes
• Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with local prescribers and the broader healthcare team

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of California (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited college (required)
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing retail pharmacy practice
• Experience with compounding, dispensing, and controlled substance security
• Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to mentor staff
• Commitment to maintaining required continuing education hours and professional development

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. (ACPE-accredited program required)

• Medication compounding and dispensing best practices

• Third-party/insurance Rx systems and troubleshooting rejections
