Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and safe venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques
• Verify patient identity and ensure correct labeling and handling of specimens
• Maintain specimen integrity and follow chain-of-custody and transport protocols
• Follow infection control and safety procedures, including proper PPE and fit-tested respirator use when required
• Complete required documentation and electronic records promptly and accurately
• Prepare and maintain phlebotomy supplies and equipment, reporting any issues
• Demonstrate compassionate, clear communication with patients to ease anxiety and ensure cooperation
• Participate in competency assessments and specialty exams to maintain clinical excellence

Qualifications

• Certified phlebotomist with current, verifiable certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• DCI/BVP certification required (as listed)
• Ability to pass Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam
• Successful license/certificate verification and background checks
• Must meet health requirements: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza, TB testing (or documented history), and any other facility-required immunizations
• Ability to pass a minimum 10-panel drug screen and fit test
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work per diem day shifts with short notice during Jan–Feb

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy certification from an accredited program
• BLS certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong venipuncture and specimen collection techniques
• Knowledge of specimen labeling, handling, and transport requirements
• Familiarity with infection control practices and PPE use
• Comfortable with electronic documentation and specimen tracking systems
• Good patient communication and bedside manner
• Attention to detail and ability to follow standardized checklists and protocols
• Basic troubleshooting of phlebotomy equipment and supplies
