Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality med/surg nursing care for surgical specialties on a busy 32-bed unit
• Perform IV insertion and manage IV medications safely and confidently
• Manage PICC and central line care plus other vascular access devices
• Handle a patient assignment up to 1:8 when needed, prioritizing safety and patient outcomes
• Participate in bedside shift report to ensure continuity of care and clear communication
• Join care team rounds to support discharge planning and smooth transitions home
• Float between Med/Surg and Ortho units to meet patient care needs and support the team
• Use clinical judgment across a variety of surgical procedures and acute diagnoses

Qualifications

• Travel nursing experience with at least the three most recent assignments in acute care med/surg (medium to large organizations preferred)
• Proven ability to manage up to 6 patients on nights, and up to 8 when required
• Skilled in IV insertion, PICC/central line management, and vascular access care
• Comfortable floating between Med/Surg and Ortho and handling a range of surgical cases
• Familiarity with common unit equipment such as Alaris IV pumps, CADD PCA, Bard mini-infusers, Pyxis, and lift systems
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, including bedside shift report and participation in care team rounds
• Current required licensure and certifications for practice in the assignment state (ensure your RN licensure and BLS are up to date)

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surg nursing principles with a focus on surgical specialties
• IV medication administration and IV insertion techniques
• PICC and central line maintenance and troubleshooting
• Wound management including experience with wound VAC systems
• Familiarity with postoperative diagnoses like hysterectomy, colectomy, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, bariatric and vascular procedures
• Comfort using Alaris pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Bard mini-infusers, and unit medication systems like Pyxis
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients safely during 12-hour night shifts
