Roles & Responsibilities
- Supervise daily sterile processing operations and lead by example on the floor
- Coach and mentor staff on proper decontamination, assembly, packaging and sterilization techniques
- Ensure compliance with AAMI, CDC, DNV, OSHA and internal policies to keep patients safe
- Develop and maintain effective departmental schedules that support smooth workflow
- Conduct staff orientation, performance reviews and corrective actions using just culture principles
- Coordinate sterilizer and Sterad operations, including monitoring and documentation of indicators
- Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives and contribute to policy updates
- Monitor inventory levels and work with leadership on supply and budgeting needs
- Communicate process changes and training opportunities across Surgical Services
- Serve as a resource enterprise-wide for sterilization/disinfection processes and standards
Qualifications
- Associate Degree (required)
- Minimum two years of sterile processing experience (required)
- Sterile Processing certification required on hire or within 6 months
- Current BCLS certification upon hire or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Able to complete computer-based training and required competency assessments
- Reliable attendance and ability to meet orientation and unit competency requirements
- Able to legally perform essential job functions and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to distinguish colors (important for instrument/indicator identification)

- Associate Degree (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Sterilization, decontamination and instrument processing best practices
- Operation and monitoring of sterilizers and Sterad equipment
- Sterile processing quality assurance, monitoring and documentation
- Infection prevention and regulatory compliance (AAMI, CDC, DNV, OSHA)
- Packaging, instrumentation assembly and inventory management
- Staff supervision, scheduling and mentoring skills
- Computer literacy for documentation and tracking systems
- Familiarity with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
- Performance monitoring and evidence-based practice for continuous improvement
