Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to residents, focusing on dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and feeding
- Monitor and record vital signs and report changes in condition promptly
- Follow individualized care plans and communicate observations to the nursing team
- Support safe mobility and fall prevention through attentive assistance
- Document resident care accurately and timely in charts or electronic records
- Build trusting relationships with residents and their families through clear communication
- Participate in team huddles and contribute to a positive, resident-centered environment
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification in Maryland or equivalent patient care certification (CNA) preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus
- Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and required health screenings
- Excellent communication skills and a patient, compassionate demeanor
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the job, including safe resident transfers
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an accredited GNA/CNA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident-centered approaches
- Basic vital signs assessment and documentation skills
- Familiarity with infection control practices and safety protocols
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and team members
- Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
- Comfort using basic electronic charting or willingness to learn facility systems
