Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess physiological, emotional, and spiritual needs of each patient and create individualized nursing care plans
- Lead and coordinate nursing care delivery, guiding and supporting subordinate personnel to ensure excellent patient outcomes
- Perform thorough patient evaluations and document progress, treatments, and discharge planning with clarity and accuracy
- Provide expert postoperative cardiac and critical care for CVICU patients, including open-heart postoperative management
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow and continuity of care
- Maintain infection prevention best practices and ensure compliance with facility policies and state regulations
Qualifications
- Active Illinois nursing license (agency IL nursing license must be included with submission)
- Minimum 2 years of current CVICU experience (REQUIRED)
- Open-heart (cardiac postoperative) experience (REQUIRED)
- ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications (must be active at time of submission)
- COVID and Flu vaccination required (declinations will NOT be approved; please include vaccination status)
- Prior Cerner experience strongly preferred
- Thoracic, vascular, or interventional experience preferred
- Provide resume, skills checklist (within 1 year), 2 supervisory references, and active certifications with submission
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and critical care nursing skills tailored to cardiovascular postoperative patients
- Care planning, documentation, and discharge planning with attention to detail
- Leadership and the ability to direct and mentor nursing staff
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record systems (preferred)
- Proficiency with ACLS, BLS protocols and NIHSS stroke assessment
- Experience with thoracic, vascular, and interventional cardiac care environments
