Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the culinary team by preparing ingredients and assisting with meal assembly
- Follow standardized recipes and portioning to ensure consistent patient meals
- Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards in line with facility policies
- Assist with receiving, storing and rotating food inventory to minimize waste
- Help accommodate therapeutic diets and special dietary needs with care and accuracy
- Keep work areas, equipment and service stations clean and stocked for efficient service
- Communicate effectively with dietary supervisors and clinical staff about meal needs
- Document required prep and production information as directed by the kitchen lead
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of full-time cooking experience (required)
- High school diploma (required)
- Active American Heart Association BLS (required)
- Graduate of a formal technical school in hotel or institutional cooking (strongly preferred)
- Medical terminology course completion (preferred)
- Supervisory signed reference from within the last two years (required)
- Permanent address required for profile upload; traveler must have own vehicle
- Must not reside within 50 miles of the facility (facility requirement)
Education
- High school diploma required; technical/culinary school graduate preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on cooking and food preparation skills for high-volume service
- Experience in institutional or hotel cooking environments
- Understanding of food safety, sanitation and portion control
- Familiarity with therapeutic diets and basic medical terminology
- Good time management and teamwork in a fast-paced kitchen
- Ability to follow recipes, production sheets and supervisor direction
- Strong communication skills with clinical and dietary staff
