Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to elderly residents, assisting with daily living activities
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly communicate observations to the nursing team
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Assist with meals, feeding, and nutrition needs while encouraging dignity and independence
- Help maintain a clean, comfortable environment and adhere to infection prevention practices
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families, offering reassurance and respectful communication
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (required)
- Current basic life support (BLS) preferred or willing to obtain
- Completed training in geriatric care or relevant experience in long-term/post-acute settings
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen and required health screenings
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively as part of a care team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Vital signs measurement and observing/reporting clinical changes
- Good documentation practices and following care plans
- Infection prevention, hand hygiene and personal protective equipment use
- Empathy, patience and strong interpersonal skills with older adults
