Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients' respiratory status to guide care decisions
- Manage and troubleshoot ventilators and advanced airway equipment
- Deliver respiratory treatments and therapies such as aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy
- Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases and communicate findings to the clinical team
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary staff to develop patient-centered plans
- Educate patients and families about respiratory conditions and at-home care
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and ensure regulatory compliance
- Participate in unit-based competency testing and skills checklists to maintain high standards
Qualifications
- Current BLS (required)
- Current ACLS (required)
- License/certificate verification (respiratory therapist credentialing required)
- Completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
- Compliance with health requirements: fit test, required immunizations (Tdap, COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, Varicella), TB testing (2-step PPD or IGRA), and a physical/health statement
- Successful completion of a 10-panel drug screen and background verification
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, ventilator management, and airway care
- Skilled in arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and interpretation
- Proficient with respiratory equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Excellent patient assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making
- Clear communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Comfortable with electronic charting and documentation best practices
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced acute care settings
