Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality care to adult patients in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to identify urgent changes
• Perform IV starts and manage peripheral, PICC and central lines safely
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to support continuity of care
• Maintain an approximate 1:5 patient ratio while prioritizing patient safety
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory, PT, pharmacy and social services
• Float within units of equivalent or lower acuity as staffing needs require
• Respond to emergencies and participate in rapid response when called

Qualifications

• ACLS and BCLS (required)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown experience (candidates with 4 years MS/Tele experience will be considered)
• Strong telemetry/MS-Tele skills and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Proven experience with IV therapy, IV starts and central/PICC line care
• Comfortable using Epic for clinical documentation
• Ability and willingness to float to other units within the OSU organization
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Education

• Nursing diploma, ADN or BSN (per facility requirements)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/stepdown nursing practices
• IV therapy, IV starts, peripheral and central line management
• Epic electronic charting and documentation best practices
• Dysrhythmia recognition and acute dysrhythmia management
• Non-invasive airway support and oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, etc.)
• Familiarity with endocrine/metabolic protocols including IV insulin protocols
• Phlebotomy, accessing/managing ports and symptom-focused assessments
