Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients continuously and provide skilled nursing care based on physician orders and evidence-based practice
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, with careful monitoring of patient responses
• Lead and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and update individualized care plans
• Delegate, oversee, and provide direction to support staff to ensure high-quality care delivery
• Respond promptly to alarms and urgent changes in patient condition
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and self-care to promote recovery and safety
• Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and contribute to plan adjustments for improved outcomes
• Ensure compliance with local, state, federal regulations and hospital policies

Qualifications

• Active Michigan RN license (LARA and/or Nursys verification required)
• Minimum 2+ years experience with Neuro PCU (required)
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• Active NIHSS certification (required)
• PCU skills checklist current within 1 year (required)
• Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years (required)
• Recent travel work history highly preferred; local candidates within a 50-mile radius considered for 1-13 week contracts

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and ongoing monitoring of neurological and medical status
• Medication administration and titration per physician orders
• Delivering treatments and nursing interventions in PCU/Neuro settings
• Evaluating and updating individualized care plans
• Delegation, oversight, and team leadership skills
• Interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, therapists, and support staff
• Patient and family education with clear, compassionate communication
• Ability to monitor and respond to alarms and urgent changes in condition
