Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage complex post-op cardiac patients, delivering skilled bedside nursing in the CVICU
- Perform advanced hemodynamic monitoring using Swan-Ganz and arterial lines and act on trends
- Oversee ventilator management and provide respiratory support for critically ill patients
- Respond to emergencies and lead ACLS interventions when needed
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, intensivists, and respiratory therapists
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Meditech charting and order entry
- Provide compassionate education and communication to patients and families during high-stress situations
- Adhere to unit policies, badging, attendance, and the Methodist floating policy to ensure smooth operations
Qualifications
- Active TX RN license required (no temporary licenses accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, CVICU experience strongly preferred
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications
- NIH required per facility policy
- Experience with hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management
- Preferred experience with IABP, Impella, ECMO, VAD care, and CRRT
- Meditech documentation experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Hemodynamic monitoring including Swan-Ganz and arterial lines
- Advanced ventilator management and troubleshooting
- Strong critical thinking and situational awareness in high-acuity settings
- Proficiency with Meditech electronic charting and order entry
- Familiarity with post-op CABG, VAD, and cardiac cath patient care
- Ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team and adapt while floating
