Shift Type: Rotating day shifts: 12-hour and 10-hour options — 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM, and 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM; schedule is mostly self-scheduled with coverage that includes Friday-Sunday (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and required holiday coverage; weeknight/call expectation ~3-4 shifts every 6 weeks; call response time 2 hours

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons and the OR team by preparing instruments and equipment for a wide range of procedures, from ortho trauma to neuro/spine and robotics
• Maintain and uphold strict sterile technique and infection control standards in the operating room
• Set up and operate specialized equipment, including robotic systems, ensuring readiness for complex cases
• Anticipate surgical team needs and provide timely instrument passing and reprocessing support during procedures
• Accurately document perioperative care and case details in EPIC and other charting systems
• Support rapid, high-acuity trauma workflows in a Level 1 trauma setting with calm, decisive action
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing education to keep skills sharp and aligned with best practices

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA — required
• BLS (AHA) certification — required
• Minimum 2 years of OR Surgical Tech experience, with demonstrated experience in robotics and trauma cases
• Comfortable working in a high-volume OR (multiple suites, fast-paced case load)
• Familiarity with EPIC charting preferred
• Ability to be in-state for orientation week and maintain a valid driver’s license (60-mile radius requirement)
• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and respond to call within a 2-hour window when scheduled

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required; BLS required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong sterile technique and surgical instrumentation knowledge
• Experience with orthopedic trauma/joints, neuro/spine, plastics, ENT, and urology procedures
• Robotic surgery setup and instrumentation experience
• Ability to function effectively in Level 1 trauma environments
• Proficient perioperative documentation and familiarity with EPIC
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and situational awareness in high-stress settings
• Self-scheduling savvy and reliable time management
