Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform timely triage and comprehensive patient assessments for all ages to prioritize care and improve outcomes
- Provide telephone triage and patient education, offering clear guidance and next-step recommendations
- Administer medications and initiate/monitor IV therapies safely, including IV push and infusions when indicated
- Document assessments, interventions and patient education accurately in the EMR to ensure continuity of care
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up, tracking outcomes and communicating status to providers
- Maintain infection control and a safe, well-stocked clinical environment to support quality care
- Collaborate with providers, LPNs and clinical assistants to streamline patient flow and deliver evidence-based care
- Respond to emergency situations and participate in department improvement and training initiatives
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hires must have applied for Alaska licensure before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience, with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Clinical competency assessment and High Risk Competency to be completed within specified onboarding timelines
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/move up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced urgent care setting
- Strong communication, charting, critical thinking and multitasking skills
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Eligible to sit for NCLEX
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and triage across the lifespan
- IV therapy initiation, maintenance and medication administration (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV)
- Telephone triage and remote patient guidance
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation and data collection
- Infection control practices and clinic safety protocols
- Care coordination, referral tracking and follow-up management
- Life-saving procedures and emergency response
- Customer service principles and professional multidisciplinary communication
