Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures with meticulous attention to detail
- Anticipate surgeon and team needs by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies efficiently
- Assist with surgical setup, counts, and turnover to promote patient safety and OR flow
- Safely handle and sterilize instruments, following infection control protocols
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia to ensure smooth procedures
- Document instrumentation and supplies used and report any discrepancies promptly
- Contribute to a positive team environment and uphold facility policies and standards
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or equivalent surgical scrub tech certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or willing to obtain)
- Prior experience in the operating room as a scrub tech; travel experience a plus
- Ability to pass facility credentialing and background checks in a timely manner
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Up-to-date immunizations and willingness to meet facility-specific health requirements
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven knowledge of sterile technique and operating room protocols
- Comfortable with instrument identification, handling, and counts
- Familiarity with surgical procedures, draping, and OR turnover processes
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
