Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of the internal risk management program to protect patients and the organization
- Direct and coordinate patient safety initiatives, including Patient Safety Rounds
- Conduct and facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode Effects Analyses (FMEA) to drive system improvements
- Investigate, evaluate, and report adverse incidents in line with state and federal regulations
- Coordinate disclosure and follow-up with patients, families, and care teams after adverse events
- Collaborate with Medical Directors, CMO, and corporate counsel on quality-of-care and peer-review matters
- Provide risk management and patient safety education and mentoring to staff and leadership
- Support accreditation and quality activities such as chart audits, clinical reviews, and data analysis
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska (required)
- CPHRM certification (must be obtained within two years if not already certified)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in risk management, patient safety, quality or regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated leadership experience in facilitating cross-functional teams
- Clinical competency to be achieved within 3 months and maintained every 3 years
- Strong communication skills for effective disclosure and multi-level collaboration
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep knowledge of risk management and patient safety principles
- Experience with RCA and FMEA methodologies
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF)
- Skills in incident investigation, regulatory reporting, and grievance analysis
- Comfort with chart audits, clinical reviews, and basic data support/analysis
- Ability to mentor staff and facilitate cross-functional improvement efforts
- Professional, clear communication with patients, families, clinicians, and leadership
