Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, individualized nursing care for long-term care residents
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, admission databases, and ongoing reassessments
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and document in the EHR
- Develop, implement, and evaluate resident care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team
- Provide leadership during your shift — delegate, supervise, and support CNAs, LPNs, and techs
- Act as charge nurse when the Director of Nursing is not present and ensure unit operations
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and changing resident conditions
- Teach and counsel residents and families; document education and discharge planning
- Participate in staff meetings, unit goal setting, and competency training
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Diploma)
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for an Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred in a relevant care setting
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and meet physical demands of the role
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning, documentation, and medication administration skills
- Infection control practices and age-specific clinical knowledge
- Familiarity with EHR documentation and accurate progress note writing
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, side effects, and safe administration
- Competency with basic and specialized equipment such as AED
- Leadership, delegation, and the ability to work cooperatively with interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and resident-centered teaching ability
- Ability to recognize and act promptly on adverse signs and emergency situations
