Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency department with compassion and clinical skill
• Triage patients rapidly and accurately, prioritizing care based on physical and psychosocial needs
• Assess patient condition, implement interventions, and monitor response to treatment
• Communicate changes in patient status, symptomology and diagnostic results to physicians and mid-level providers
• Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, allied health staff and registration to ensure smooth patient flow
• Give direction to ED techs and registration staff and support team-based problem solving
• Operate and maintain manual and electronic medical equipment and document care thoroughly
• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and changes in patient condition

Qualifications

• Current MT State RN license required
• BLS and ACLS required, PALS, TNCC and ENPC required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
• Minimum 2 years of emergency department nursing experience required
• BSN degree preferred
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
• Strong assessment, IV and triage skills
• Basic computer and office skills for electronic charting and communication

Education

• Degree from an accredited nursing program required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency department nursing principles and procedures
• Rapid triage, focused and comprehensive patient assessment
• IV skills and safe operation of clinical equipment
• Ability to prioritize, multitask and manage patient flow in a busy ED
• Clear, professional communication with interdisciplinary teams and patients
• Basic office and computer literacy for documentation and ordering
