Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency department with compassion and clinical skill
- Triage patients rapidly and accurately, prioritizing care based on physical and psychosocial needs
- Assess patient condition, implement interventions, and monitor response to treatment
- Communicate changes in patient status, symptomology and diagnostic results to physicians and mid-level providers
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, allied health staff and registration to ensure smooth patient flow
- Give direction to ED techs and registration staff and support team-based problem solving
- Operate and maintain manual and electronic medical equipment and document care thoroughly
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and changes in patient condition
Qualifications
- Current MT State RN license required
- BLS and ACLS required, PALS, TNCC and ENPC required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Minimum 2 years of emergency department nursing experience required
- BSN degree preferred
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
- Strong assessment, IV and triage skills
- Basic computer and office skills for electronic charting and communication
Education
- Degree from an accredited nursing program required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency department nursing principles and procedures
- Rapid triage, focused and comprehensive patient assessment
- IV skills and safe operation of clinical equipment
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and manage patient flow in a busy ED
- Clear, professional communication with interdisciplinary teams and patients
- Basic office and computer literacy for documentation and ordering
