Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in an acute/emergency setting
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and escalate complex cases to leadership when needed
- Perform triage and emergency response calmly and efficiently in high-pressure situations
- Transcribe and document physician orders accurately in the EMR and maintain complete patient records
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff to ensure safe, high-quality care
- Maintain infection control practices and adhere to nursing policies and procedures
- Participate in developing and updating care plans, nursing procedures, and quality initiatives
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state
- Direct hire applicants must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or obtained within 6 months of hire
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred and required for ED nurses
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency completed within required timeframes
- Experience is a plus but not required; acute care, ED, or long-term care experience preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills across the lifespan
- Proficient EMR documentation and accurate transcription of physician orders
- Familiarity with infection control standards and nursing policies
- Ability to supervise and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication with patients, families, and staff
- Sound judgment and calm decision-making in emergent and high-risk situations
- Good record-keeping and administrative skills
