Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across the lifespan, including assessment, treatment and monitoring
- Manage ventilators and advanced airway support, adjusting settings based on clinical data
- Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis to guide patient therapy
- Lead neonatal and pediatric resuscitation and stabilization efforts as needed (NRP/PALS skills in action)
- Respond promptly to emergency and code situations, collaborating with the care team to optimize outcomes
- Document treatments and patient responses accurately in the medical record and complete required competency checklists
- Participate in infection control, equipment maintenance, and quality improvement initiatives to keep patients safe
Qualifications
- Current BLS certification (required)
- Current ACLS certification (required)
- Current PALS certification (required)
- Current NRP certification (required)
- Active Respiratory Therapist license or credential as required by state (license/certificate verification will be completed)
- Completion of required pre-employment health items: fit test, drug screen, color vision, immunizations or valid titers, and physical/health statement
- Comfort working in acute care settings and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven skills in ventilator management and titration for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients
- Strong airway management and emergency response abilities
- Competence in arterial blood gas interpretation and respiratory assessment
- Familiarity with neonatal resuscitation and pediatric respiratory care
- Ability to complete specialty competency testing and skills checklists
- Effective communication with patients, families and clinical teams
- Working knowledge of infection control practices and equipment sterilization
