Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic sonographic examinations of all requested body parts for radiologist interpretation
- Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and imaging files
- Ensure quality assurance of the ultrasound department and participate in accreditation efforts
- Care for transducers, equipment, and the neatness of the work area
- Assist with ultrasound-guided invasive procedures and coordinate with referring physicians
- Transfer and care for patients across age groups with compassion and professionalism
- Assume departmental responsibility in the absence of a supervisor and support ancillary duties
- Pursue continuing education and help prepare policy/procedure updates in imaging
Qualifications
- Current ARDMS certification in at least one category (ABD, OB/GYN, RVT, or RDCS) required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required
- Demonstrated ability to perform diagnostic exams relevant to assigned modality
- Comfortable working with patients across the lifespan, from newborns to geriatric adults
- Willingness to rotate shifts, travel between SEARHC sites as needed, and cross-train in other imaging modalities
- Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work well under stress
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
- ARDMS certification in one category required; additional ARDMS credentials encouraged
- BLS (AHA) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in sonographic examination techniques (ABD and OB/GYN focus)
- Excellent patient-care skills and clear, compassionate communication
- Solid documentation practices and familiarity with maintaining patient records
- Experience with transducer care, equipment maintenance, and infection control (Trophon station care)
- Understanding of quality assurance, accreditation processes, and continuing education requirements
- Ability to consult effectively with referring physicians and multidisciplinary teams
- Culturally competent care for diverse populations across Southeast Alaska
