Roles & Responsibilities
- Audit medical records to validate ICD-10 and CPT coding and ensure accurate clinical documentation
- Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis of findings and recommendations
- Provide regular education and feedback to physicians, midlevels, coders, and charge-entry staff
- Maintain audit logs and ensure audit processes meet productivity and quality targets
- Support the revenue cycle team by developing tools and training materials to improve documentation
- Perform coding as needed to support accuracy and continuity of operations
- Collaborate with the Revenue Cycle Manager on coding evaluations and performance assessments
- Design and implement provider education plans to improve documentation and coding compliance
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
- Minimum five years of combined inpatient/outpatient coding and auditing experience
- Strong professional physician coding experience in office-based or multi-specialty group settings
- Experience interacting with physicians and providing documentation/coding education
- Proven auditing experience and familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines
- Comfort training staff and contributing to revenue cycle improvement initiatives
Education
- Associate degree in a related field (required)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
- Experience with professional claims coding and medical record auditing
- Clinical documentation improvement and ability to translate findings into education
- Ability to communicate coding rationale clearly to clinicians and staff
- Familiarity with charge entry and revenue cycle processes
- Skilled at compiling audit analyses and maintaining audit lodges
