Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform transthoracic, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography accurately and efficiently
- Conduct EKGs, prepare and monitor Holter recordings, and analyze Holter data for diagnostic clarity
- Operate and troubleshoot echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors to deliver high-quality diagnostic information
- Assess and document studies in hospital information systems for accurate scheduling and processing
- Implement infection control practices, demonstrate aseptic technique, and ensure proper equipment disinfection
- Provide age-specific cardiac testing and compassionate care for neonatal, pediatric and adult patients
- Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor for students from contracted colleges and universities
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and the care team to support optimal patient outcomes
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
- Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
- Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
- Preferred experience with neonatal and pediatric echocardiography
- Comfort working variable evening schedules and collaborating in a multidisciplinary team
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential (required)
- Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong skills in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography (2D, M-Mode, color Doppler)
- Experience with exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
- Proficiency in EKG acquisition, Holter monitoring/prep and analysis
- Familiarity with cardiac stress testing systems and computerized analysis tools
- Working knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
- Ability to provide age-specific patient care, especially neonatal and pediatric populations
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; comfortable precepting students
- Attention to detail and accurate documentation in hospital information systems
