Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a systemwide Infection Prevention & Control program aligned with CDC, OSHA, CMS, TJC, FDA, and best practices
- Collect, analyze, trend, and report healthcare-associated infection (HAI) and surveillance data, including NHSN reporting
- Design and deliver infection prevention education and training for staff, patients, families, and community partners
- Draft, update, and operationalize policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality care
- Chair the Infection Prevention Committee and provide oversight for the Employee Health program
- Lead performance improvement and risk management activities related to infection control
- Collaborate with public health, clinical, administrative, and executive leaders to integrate IPC principles into system initiatives
- Travel to regional sites to assess practices, provide on-site education, and support local teams
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required
- Direct hire applicants must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before the start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or related healthcare field required
- Master’s degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
- Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) current within 3 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in acute care/infection control, data collection, performance improvement, or risk management
- Clinical and manager competency assessments required within initial months and at periodic intervals
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or related healthcare field (required)
- Master’s degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of epidemiology, infectious disease principles, and basic statistics
- Experience with surveillance systems, NHSN reporting, and data analysis
- Proficiency with MS Office and database applications for accurate data entry and reporting
- Ability to synthesize regulatory requirements and translate them into practical policy and training
- Strong communication skills, including adapting content for diverse, multicultural audiences
- Project management and performance improvement methodology experience
- Skilled at collaborating across teams and working independently when needed
