Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to detect changes early and act decisively
- Perform timely and thorough patient assessments to guide safe, effective care
- Administer medications, treatments and interventions according to plan of care
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth transitions and comprehensive discharge planning
- Float to all Med-Surg units and provide consistent, high-quality care across different patient populations
- Document patient care clearly and accurately in the electronic health record
- Respond to emergencies and escalate concerns to the appropriate provider promptly
- Participate in unit competency testing and ongoing skills validation to maintain excellence
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state licensure required)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- TNCC and NIHSS certifications required
- Willingness to float to different Med-Surg units and to MercyOne West Des Moines as scheduled
- Successful completion of Trinity specialty competency testing and Trinity skills checklist
- Compliance with required health screenings: fit test, 10-panel drug screen, required vaccinations and PPD/IGRA testing
- Current license and certificate verification on file
Education
- Active RN license required (nursing diploma, ADN or BSN as applicable per state rules)
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm recognition
- Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making
- Med-Surg nursing principles and safe medication administration
- Comfort working across multiple unit cultures and adapting quickly when floating
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills with multidisciplinary staff
- Proficiency with clinical documentation and electronic health records
- Adherence to infection control and safety protocols
