Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral catheterization procedures with precision and calm
- Prepare patients and procedure rooms, verify documentation and consents, and support safe, efficient starts to each case
- Operate fluoroscopy/x-ray equipment accurately and independently while enforcing radiation safety protocols
- Monitor, document and chart procedures in the MacLab system to maintain clear clinical records
- Obtain hemostasis post-procedure and support patient recovery with attention to safety
- Perform thorough procedure room turnover following infection control guidelines after every case
- Administer intracoronary medications per Bayhealth/unit policies under established protocols
- Engage in ongoing education, maintain required certifications, and pursue specialty certification (RCIS) when possible
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences OR completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program (required)
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR ARRT (RT) as applicable — obtain within required timeframe if not already held
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications (required within employer timeframe if not current)
- Eighteen (18) months of diagnostic radiology experience OR successful completion of an accredited radiologic/cardiovascular program with letters of recommendation
- Preferred: Two (2) years’ experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab performing diagnostic, interventional and electrophysiology procedures
- Strong attention to radiation safety, infection control and procedure documentation standards
Education
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences OR accredited Cardiovascular Technology program (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiac catheterization techniques and peripheral vascular procedures
- Fluoroscopy/x-ray operation and radiation safety compliance
- Procedure documentation in MacLab and accurate clinical charting
- Patient preparation, room setup and efficient procedure turnover
- Hemostasis techniques and post-procedure patient care
- Infection control best practices in the Cath Lab
- Familiarity with intracoronary medication administration and Cath Lab instrumentation
- Exposure to electrophysiology and interventional lab workflows is a plus
