Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care for progressive care patients from admission through discharge
- Assess, monitor and intervene for hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable patients
- Operate and manage advanced medical equipment including ventilators, arterial and central lines
- Interpret telemetry and EKGs to detect and respond to changes in patient status
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, patient-centered care
- Act as a clinical leader and preceptor to support and develop nursing staff
- Coordinate and execute discharge planning and patient education
- Delegate and guide care activities for RNs, LPNs, CNAs and support staff
Qualifications
- Current Montana RN licensure required
- BLS, ACLS and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Experience in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit with recent Critical Care or Progressive Care nursing required
- EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
- Comfort and experience with ventilator support (invasive and noninvasive), central and arterial lines, chest tubes, NG tubes and continuous bladder irrigation
- Demonstrated ability to function as a clinical leader and preceptor
Education
- Degree from a Nursing Program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and advanced nursing principles and procedures
- Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
- Ventilator management and ventilatory support
- Invasive line management including central lines and arterial lines
- Chest tube and nasogastric tube care
- IV pump management and multiple IV infusions
- Use of basic office equipment and effective interdisciplinary communication
- Pediatric experience is a plus
