Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care for neuro surgical patients in the operating room
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, techs and support staff to ensure smooth case flow
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields and surgical instrumentation specific to neurosurgery
- Monitor patients intraoperatively and respond promptly to changes in condition
- Anticipate needs during procedures and proactively supply necessary equipment and supplies
- Document perioperative care and patient status accurately and promptly in the record
- Participate in safety checks, time-outs, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of assignment or compact licensure where applicable
- Current BLS required; ACLS and/or specialty neuro certifications preferred
- Operating Room experience with neurosurgery cases preferred
- CNOR certification is a strong plus
- Ability to pass background screening and drug testing per facility requirements
- Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills in high-acuity settings
Education
- Completion of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and active RN licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative nursing principles
- Familiarity with neurosurgical instruments, equipment and intraoperative monitoring
- Proficient patient assessment and the ability to prioritize under pressure
- Experience with electronic medical records and accurate documentation practices
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working within the surgical team
