Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled occupational therapy treatments and assistive techniques tailored to each patient
• Implement individualized care plans and document progress clearly and professionally
• Collaborate with therapists, nurses, and case managers to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on therapeutic approaches, home programs, and safety
• Use clinical reasoning to adapt interventions for function, independence, and participation
• Support discharge planning by communicating functional status and equipment needs

Qualifications

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
• Must be authorized to work in New Mexico and agencies should have NM caregivers account as noted
• Active state licensure or registration as required by New Mexico regulations
• Current basic life support (BLS) preferred or ability to obtain quickly
• Comfortable working in a post-acute/rehabilitation setting (Powerback facility)
• Strong documentation skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines

Education

• Associate degree or OTA program completion in Occupational Therapy Assistant
• Completion of COTA certification program

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in ADL retraining, adaptive equipment recommendations, and therapeutic activities
• Familiarity with clinical documentation, care planning, and outcome measurement
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities
• Ability to assess functional mobility, safety risks, and home equipment needs
• Team-oriented approach and strong time management for efficient caseload handling
