Roles & Responsibilities

• Serve as the RN First Assistant during operative and other invasive procedures, providing advanced intraoperative support
• Deliver safe, effective, patient-family centered perioperative care across the surgical continuum
• Function as scrub or circulator when a first assist is not required, keeping the OR running smoothly
• Maintain strict sterile technique and surgical field integrity at all times
• Anticipate surgeon needs and manage instruments and supplies efficiently during procedures
• Perform thorough pre-operative and post-operative assessments and document care accurately
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative team members to optimize patient outcomes
• Participate in competency verification, continuing education, and quality improvement activities

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) — required
• Experience functioning as an RN First Assistant / First Assist in perioperative settings
• Hands-on perioperative nursing skills including intraoperative patient care and scrub/sterile technique
• Comfort rotating into scrub or circulator roles as assignment needs dictate
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a patient-family centered approach

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing best practices and sterile technique
• Surgical first assist principles and intraoperative patient care
• OR workflows and instrument/sterile field management
• Patient-family centered care and clear clinical documentation
• Ability to function independently and as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team
