Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with dignity and compassion
• Support mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics and lift assistance as needed
• Monitor and record vital signs and report any changes in condition to nursing staff promptly
• Provide friendly companionship and engage residents in meaningful conversation and activities
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate clearly during shift handoffs
• Follow infection control, safety protocols, and care plans to protect residents and staff
• Respond to resident needs promptly and advocate for their comfort and well-being

Qualifications

• GNA certification required
• Active/unrestricted state certification and ability to work in Maryland
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred (if not already held, assistance/resources may be available)
• Comfortable working with older adult populations and assisting with ADLs
• Background check and health screening (immunizations) must meet facility requirements
• Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Completed GNA training program and current certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Basic understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Ability to safely assist with transfers, mobility, and use of assistive devices
• Good observational skills for noticing changes in skin, mood, behavior, or vitals
• Clear communication and teamwork with nurses, therapists, and facility staff
• Time management to prioritize resident needs during shift
• Respectful, person-centered approach to resident care
