Roles & Responsibilities

• Care for, handle, and store surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment with meticulous attention to sterility
• Process sterile goods and prepare them for redistribution throughout the medical center to support safe patient care
• Assist Sterile Processing Specialists with team lead duties, including maintaining staff competencies and workflow support
• Perform instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage following established protocols
• Ensure compliance with infection control and sterile processing policies to protect patients and staff
• Document processes and maintain accurate supply and instrument records to keep the OR running smoothly
• Collaborate with clinical teams to prioritize instrument needs for surgical schedules

Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of recent Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) experience — required
• HSPA certification held for at least 2 years — required
• Active American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) — required
• Previous travel assignment experience — required
• COVID-19 vaccination — declinations not accepted — required
• Resume and GBMC cover page (GBMC cover page can be provided if you don't have one)
• One supervisory reference from the last 6 months and one supervisory reference from the last 12 months
• Skills checklist specific to Sterile Processing Technician discipline — required

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile processing and surgical instrument handling expertise
• Instrument inspection, assembly, sterilization, and sterile storage best practices
• Familiarity with sterile processing workflows in acute care settings
• Ability to perform team lead duties and support competency maintenance
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills
• Effective communication and collaboration with clinical teams and supervisors
