Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub in and assist on advanced and complex surgical procedures under RN supervision
• Set up and maintain sterile field, instruments, equipment, supplies, and solutions for each case
• Anticipate surgeon preferences and prepare materials so procedures run smoothly
• Disassemble, clean, and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization within scope of duties
• Monitor supplies and instrument sterility to support quality assurance and patient safety
• Manage inventory and order supplies as needed to ensure seamless operations
• Develop and deliver educational materials and in-service training for the department
• Serve as backup for emergency cases and participate in assigned committees and projects

Qualifications

• Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required at time of submission
• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technologist training program (or equivalent accrediting agency recognized by USDOE)
• Current BLS certification
• Must have or obtain seasonal flu vaccination as required
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience preferred
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and handle intraoperative requests calmly and competently

Education

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a technologist training program accredited by CAAHEP or an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile technique and instrument processing/sterilization
• Surgical instrumentation and familiarity with sutures, needles, prosthetic devices
• Patient positioning and safety during procedures
• Wound healing principles and complication recognition
• Anatomy and physiology relevant to perioperative care
• Inventory management and ensuring sterility of materials
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and respond quickly during surgery
