Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled perioperative nursing care in the operating room, ensuring patient safety and excellent outcomes
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the OR team to coordinate complex cases (general, ENT, neuro, spine, ortho, robotics)
- Maintain sterile field and surgical asepsis while anticipating surgeon needs and equipment requirements
- Assess and monitor patient status pre-, intra-, and post-operatively and communicate changes promptly
- Document care efficiently and accurately in Epic to support seamless continuity and compliance
- Respond effectively to trauma and neuro cases, applying critical thinking under pressure
- Contribute to a positive unit culture by mentoring peers and supporting charge staff when needed
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license (state licensure appropriate for Colorado required)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with OR/perioperative nursing experience
- Trauma and neuro OR experience required
- Epic (EPIC) EMR experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred (there will be a charge and house supervisor on shift)
- Valid driver's license required (60-mile radius; DL must be submitted)
- Ability to be in-state for orientation week even if initial modules are remote
Education
- Associate Degree or Nursing Diploma required; BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong perioperative nursing knowledge including sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
- Comfort with a variety of surgical specialties: general, ENT, neuro, spine, orthopedics, robotics
- Proficiency with Epic charting and perioperative documentation
- Excellent situational awareness and team communication in high-acuity settings
- Ability to prioritize, triage, and respond in trauma and emergent situations
- Familiarity with block scheduling and working predictable 12-hour day shifts
