Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM or 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM (9-hour day shifts); 1-2 weeknight on-call shifts per week (end of shift until 7:00 AM next day); 1 weekend on-call per month (Friday 7:00 AM - Monday 7:00 AM); holiday on-call as scheduled. Day shifts with rotating on-call responsibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons and the OR team by preparing sterile fields and instruments for a variety of cases including total joints and cesarean sections
• Perform sterile technique and instrument handling to maintain a safe, efficient operating environment
• Set up and support specialty equipment such as MAKO robotic systems and C-arm imaging when needed
• Anticipate surgeon needs during procedures and provide focused perioperative assistance
• Maintain accurate intraoperative documentation in MEDITECH and follow unit protocols
• Participate in team-based scheduling and on-call coverage to ensure consistent patient care
• Adhere to fit testing, infection control, and facility-specific policies to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• BLS Certification required
• ND UAP certification required; CST or NCCT preferred
• Minimum 1 year of OR experience, ideally with exposure to total joints and C-sections
• Comfortable with general, orthopedic, and OB/GYN procedures including laparoscopy and arthroscopy
• Able to pass required respirator/fit testing (facial hair may prevent passing certain tests)
• Willingness to comply with radius and facility affiliation rules (no concurrent FT/PT/PRN at CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities)
• Professional, team-oriented attitude and strong communication skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent training
• CST or NCCT certification preferred but not strictly required if ND UAP is held

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in sterile technique and perioperative instrument handling
• Experience with orthopedic assists including total joint and arthroscopy cases
• Familiarity with MAKO robot, C-arm, Ligasure, and harmonic scalpel is a plus
• Comfortable with common general and OB/GYN procedures such as lap appy, lap chole, ex lap, LAVH, D&C, and C-section
• Basic proficiency with MEDITECH charting system
• Strong situational awareness, teamwork, and patient safety focus
