Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patient health status promptly and thoroughly within the correctional setting
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care according to provider orders and accepted nursing standards
• Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly and professionally
• Administer medications and follow provider orders safely and accurately
• Implement individualized care plans and coordinate care with the correctional health team
• Advocate for patient needs while maintaining safety and security protocols
• Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and collaborate with providers to optimize outcomes
• Support patient education and teach self-care or release instructions as appropriate

Qualifications

• Active Ohio RN license - State of Ohio license only
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association only
• Clinical nursing experience; one year of clinical experience preferred
• Experience or comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment preferred
• Willingness to work rotating schedules, including every other weekend and rotating holidays
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods and to lift/assist per facility requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and clinical decision-making in diverse patient populations
• Thorough nursing documentation and charting best practices
• Medication administration and provider order implementation
• Care planning and evaluation aligned with nursing standards
• Correctional medicine protocols and working safely in secure environments
• Basic Life Support (AHA) and the ability to respond to medical emergencies
• Physical stamina for prolonged standing, mobility assistance, and patient handling
