Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead daily unit operations as the charge nurse, coordinating staffing and patient flow to ensure safe, timely care
• Oversee complex oncologic treatments including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions and CAR T-cell therapies
• Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to bedside staff, supporting skill development and performance
• Ensure adherence to infection control and neutropenic precautions to protect vulnerable patients
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, social work and other disciplines for coordinated, patient-centered care
• Perform charge duties such as triaging admissions/transfers, assigning patients, and managing unit resources
• Document accurately in EPIC, maintain clear communication, and escalate clinical concerns as needed
• Respond to oncologic emergencies and guide the team through critical interventions when needed

Qualifications

• Current state nursing license (active and in good standing)
• Minimum 3 years oncology experience required (hematology preferred)
• Minimum 3 years charge nurse/leadership experience required
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, CHEMO (ONS/ONCC or equivalent)
• EPIC charting experience required
• Comfort with float assignments and rotating weekend coverage
• Will consider first-time travel nurses if experience requirements are met

Knowledge & Skills

• Inpatient oncology care and chemotherapy administration
• IV therapy/infusions, central line and port care, PICC management
• Administration of blood and blood products and coagulation factors
• Recognition and management of oncologic emergencies (tumor lysis, anaphylaxis, extravasation, sepsis, hemorrhage, spinal cord compression)
• Monitoring chemotherapy, continuous infusions, IV push chemo and cytotoxic spill management
• Familiarity with immunotherapies, stem cell/BMT concepts, and CAR T-cell patient care
• Telemetry interpretation, phlebotomy skills, infusion pump and PCA management
• Patient and family education, psychosocial support, and symptom management
