Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to patients: assistance with ADLs, bathing, dressing and mobility
- Take and record vital signs accurately; report clinical changes to the nursing team
- Support EKG testing and basic cardiac monitoring as needed per facility protocols
- Assist with safe patient transfers and fall prevention strategies
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and communicate clearly with RN staff
- Follow infection control and safety procedures, including PPE and screening requirements
- Participate in shift handoffs and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members for excellent patient care
Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) — active state certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) listed as required
- Completion of VHC EKG Exam and License/Certificate Verification as part of onboarding
- Up-to-date immunizations and required health screenings (COVID-19 vaccine, TB testing, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, influenza, drug screen, fit test)
- Reliable, patient-focused, with strong communication and teamwork skills
- Prior experience in med-surg or acute care settings is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential from an approved program; current state certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable with bedside patient care and personal care routines
- Ability to obtain and record vital signs and basic clinical measurements
- Familiarity with basic EKG procedures and telemetry support
- Understanding of infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE use
- Strong documentation habits and ability to follow care plans
- Good situational awareness, safety-first mindset, and teamwork orientation
- Basic familiarity with electronic health records and charting preferred
